Do Something Useful - Take a Break

Use a career break to help yourself and others.

Feeling burnt out from all those demanding training sessions? Or maybe you want to make a real difference. This month I am not talking about helping your clients, but about those in a far less fortunate situation.

One of the most rewarding things you can do with your time is teach English to young people in a developing country. Visit beautiful parts of the world, like the plains of Kenya or the Rainforests of Ecuador and make a difference to local communities. Teaching English as a foreign language is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn about other cultures, with students eager to learn about yours. It can be highly rewarding for both parties.

Most people will need an extra qualification before they can teach English abroad. One of the cheapest and most effective courses for career breakers is run by i-to-i UK. As we report elsewhere in this issue, the firm's excellent has recently been recognised by a small business award.

I'll leave you with a short quote to convince you of the rewards. David Ferrier, a former i-to-i trainee said "[after] deciding to take a promised sabbatical, I attended the i-to-i TEFL course in London at the end of February, and they sent me out to Sri Lanka three weeks later. The satisfaction I felt from teaching English to keen Sri Lankan adults went way beyond my expectations."
